House Clearance Guide

What is the Definition of a House Clearance?

The removal of a home’s contents, which includes furnishings and personal effects in most situations, is known as a house clearance. Items are usually sold, given away, or thrown away depending on the circumstances.

House clearances can be a very daunting prospect when you have no idea where to start. House clearances are carried out for various reasons, most often for a deceased family member, an inheritance or to sell a house. House Clearances can be conducted by the people who own the property, a Removal company, or a House Clearance Company.

So What is the Best Way to Prepare for a House Clearance?

Green4Logistics house clearance guide will highlight the best solutions to help you along the way.

What Our Customers Are Saying

1.  House Clearance Preparation

A good idea is to estimate how long it will take to undertake your house clearance. We would advise that you would need around half a day to complete each room.

Remember that House Clearances can be very time-consuming so try to plan it in advance.

2. The First Thing to do When Preparing for a House Clearance is to Get Rid of Any Clutter in The Home.

The best method when getting rid of clutter is to pile items in the following Keep, Donate, Trash, Sell.

2.1  Keep

Depending on how much items you are going to keep you will need to find a place to store these items.

If you have a lot of items then personal storage units could be an option. If money is tight then ask family members and friends if they have any spare space available.

2.2 Donate

If you have any items you would like to donate then its a good idea to see what charity shops are available in your local area. Give them a call and see if they will take the items you wish to donate. Please be aware that if you do have any sofas, armchairs etc that you would like to donate, most charity shops require the “fire safety label” to still be fitted on them.

You will also need to find the best way to deliver your items to the charity shop. If you are using a house clearance company they will do this for you if you let them know in advance.

2.3 Trash

Throw out anything that you don’t need, including old clothes, shoes and bedding etc. You may recycle items that you have decided to dispose of at your local recycle facility (your house clearance firm can also remove your trash for you). Why not contact your local council and see if they offer a local collection service where you leave your unwanted items outside of your home and they collect them?.

Skip hire is the best choice if you have a lot of things to get rid of. However, you must load all of your goods into the skip yourself. Skips may be dropped off on your driveway or along your road; please note that if the skip is delivered on your road, you’ll need to consult with your council for a skip permit. You can hire a skip for a day, a few days or even a week depending on what needs going into it. If you fill your skip in that time the skip hire company will usually come and replace the skip with an empty one if this is required.

2.4 Sell

If you have any items that you believe are worth money but don’t want, why not attempt to get rid of them?

TV’s, books, furniture, and white goods such as washing machines are some examples of things that might be offered.

These can be placed on online auction sites such as Ebay, Facebook Marketplace or Gumtree. You could be shocked at how much money you make from your sold items, but keep in mind that you’ll need to sell them ahead of time or else they’ll take up room.

If you’re going to sell items make sure they are clean and presentable – this will help them sell faster.

3. House Clearance Cleaning

Once your belongings are gone and the room is empty, you’ll need to clean it.

We would recommend professional cleaners to do this.

House Clearance companies will usually include cleaning as part of their service, but if they haven’t, professional cleaners can make a huge difference to the overall appearance of a home and could increase its value.
