You are on the final days before your removal and you have the dreaded kitchen to pack! You have dishes, appliances, and odds and ends crammed into numerous draws and on shelves. Don’t panic.!! Our ‘How To Pack The Kitchen For Moving Article’ will help you get prepared for the all important day.
The kitchen area is a job that you can’t rush through, if you’re not careful in your packing, you can risk finding broken dishes, cups and shattered glasses when you open the boxes in your new home.
Appliances
Some of our previous clients still had their appliances’ original packaging and boxes and used these on their move date. If you do so we suggest it is best to use them. If not, don’t worry our team can provide blankets/covers to protect your appliances during the move. Before moving, make sure each appliance is clean, dry and also empty.
Please remove smaller parts and fragile items, such as glass trays in fridges and also water cables from washing machines and dishwashers. Fridge magnets etc. If you have your ‘appliance owners manual’ we suggest you tape it to the front of the appliance for easier assembly later.
Tableware
We suggest that when packing these items you use a triple layer box with strong tape on the bottom. Start by placing two layers of bubble wrap or packing paper in the bottom of the box. You then wrap each piece of tableware with a thin layer of packing paper and stack them one at a time in the box. (Ask our team for prices of our packing materials as we can supply these).
We suggest that you add an extra layer of bubble wrap or paper in between every 4 items/dishes. For extremely fragile items such as wine glasses, china cups and coffee mugs, we suggest you wrap these items individual with packing paper or bubble wrap. Please check the weight of the box, if this is heavy this may break the seal on the tape on the bottom of your box.
Cutlery / Silverware
Loose cutlery is difficult to sort out during unpacking and can damage fragile items in shared boxes. We suggest that you start by sorting your items according to type. Then you wrap each type with a rubber band or piece of string. Finally, place all of your items into a shoebox/plastic small container and tape the box closed with packing tape.
Packing Food
Prior to packing we suggest this is a great time to check your ‘Sell by Dates’ on any food items in both your fridge and cupboards. Any food that has been opened we suggest that you don’t pack these items or purchase a larger sealable bag to place these items into. With liquid food items we suggest you keep these separate from other food items and make sure the tops of the bottles are on tight.
If you have numerous canned food items please be careful not to overpack the boxes and check the weight of the box.
Pots and Pans
Your pots and pans are the largest items in the kitchen, so grab your biggest pan and place it into a box both horizontally and diagonally. Then try and close the lid securely on your box. Stack your remaining pots and pans safely onto of each other in the box. Once the main items are in the box, you can wrap glass lids with thin packing paper or bubble wrap and place them underneath the handles of the pots and pans.
Other Kitchen Items
We suggest to save on boxes, wrap any kitchen utensils and other odds and ends with a single layer of packing paper. Once wrapped, place these into your other boxes to fill up the last bit of unused space. If you have any kitchen towels we suggest you also pack these around your items.
Frozen Food
With your frozen food we suggest that you pack these items last on the actual day of your removal into freezer bags then hopefully when you reach your new home the items will still be frozen
